da premier bet: There is no truth in any speculation linking one Scottish midfielder with a move to Rangers this summer.

da dobrowin: That is according to a claim made by The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell on social media.

The Lowdown: Rangers namechecked

Lewis Ferguson was a bright spark in a disappointing Aberdeen side last season, with the club finishing a lowly 10th in the Premiership.

Although the midfielder still has a couple of years left on his deal at Pittodrie, a number of rumours have emerged linking him with a move away from the club. Indeed, Lecce have reportedly submitted a £2m offer for the 22-year-old.

Rangers have been namechecked by Alex Rae as a possible destination for the youngster in recent days, strengthened by the fact that his father Derek and uncle Barry both played for the Light Blues.

The Latest: Campbell weighs in

Campbell has now weighed in on the speculation linking Ferguson with a move to Ibrox.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the journalist claimed: “Re the Lewis Ferguson to Rangers rumours starting up again, they’re not one of the interested parties. Nothing in that link, even if it rears its head every window…”

The Verdict: Rangers need additions

With the likes of Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo linked with Premier League moves this summer, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad could become rather light all of a sudden.

Therefore, the likes of Ferguson – who has 128 Premiership games under his belt – could be worth adding to the Gers’ squad.

Whilst it is expected that Rangers would be looking for replacements if their big-name players were to leave this summer, it seems unlikely that a similar amount of money would be spent on their replacements.

As a result, Ferguson – who has a Transfermarkt value of £1.8m – could have proven to be a shrewd signing for the club.
